Sir,

This is to invite your attention to the fact that I had purchased Maruti Omni Van from Seva Automotive Ltd., Nasik on 07/11. My registration No. is MH-15BN-6895, Chassis No. 800557 and Engine No. 3685711 . Previously, I had purchased a second hand Maruti Van, but the same being old, had started giving me trouble hence I sold it off. My father who is now 83 years old drives it and I had bought the new Maruti Omni Van for his convenience. I was advised by friends to purchase a car of some other Manufacturer but I trusted Maruti and hence took the decision of buying a Maruti product, which I honestly repent now.

Please find below the history of hardships suffered by me and my 83 year old father because of buying a Maruti product:

1) The day I bought the Van i.e. on 07/11, my father took it to the market, being very happy that now he had a new Van. While coming back home, the Van would’nt start. I called up the Emergency service and the Van had to be towed back to the Service Station. The problem was that the alternator of the BRAND NEW MARUTI VAN was faulty and had to be repaired on the VERY DAY of purchasing it.

2) Another problem occurred within approximately three months of purchasing the Van, while coming from Nasik carrying 3 relatives (all senior citizens) the tyre got punctured. When it was taken to a mechanic found that a small air cap between the tyre and the tube had changed positon and punctured the tyre. The Van was taken to the Seva Service Station and the tyre and tube were replaced.

3) Approximately a month ago, while my father was returning home from the market, as usual, the Van would’nt start. After this episode the Van visited the Maruti Service Station on almost 6 to 7 occasions, but the problem could not be diagnosed. I was told that the alternator and other things were checked and that everything was fine. I was asked to change the Van battery, which I did, even then the starting problem persisted. I changed the battery for the SECOND TIME (I bought a Amron make for Rs. 3500/- GO-38B-20R 0243299780612) but the problem re-occurred. Now the Van has been handed over to me on a trial and error basis.

From the day I have bought the Maruti Van for convenience, I am sorry to say but it has caused me only inconvenience and nothing else. My father who is 83 years of age has faced a lot of hardship because of this since he is the one for whom I bought the Van and he is the one who drives it most of the time. I had paid for the extended warranty too at the time of purchase, which is expiring on 06/11. I am totally fed up of taking the Van again & again to the maruti station (which is almost 14 kms from my residence) or asking them to tow it. I am a working lady, a Central Government servant and am missing a lot of office which is adversely affecting my job.

-- 2 --

Mr. Anand Kshirsagar at Seva Maruti Station, Nasik has been very very co-operative but my basic problem still persists.

Presently, the Van is running fine but if the starting problem re-occurs, I demand for a BRAND NEW MARUTI VAN or I will be forced to take extreme steps like filing a complaint with the Consumer Court, demanding a heavy compensation for all the hardship faced by me and my father. I am also contemplating of posting an article on the Net, in the local Newspapers and in the National Newspapers too against Maruti.

I am now writing this to you because I do not want a reply after 06/11 that the Van warranty has expired and nothing can be done. The problem is on going and if the same persists after 06/11 you will have to take cognizance of the same as if it was under warranty.

I hope cognizance of this letter is taken seriously and no other customer of Maruti suffers the way, me and my father (who is 83 years) have suffered, after purchasing any four wheeler from MARUTI.

Yours sincerely,

(Arefa A. Kachwala)
