Harrassment by delhi metro employees

To whoever it may concern,

Today (20th Sep) I had a really bad experience with the Delhi Metro employees; to the extent that I have vouched never to use this service ever again in my life. Not only this, I have & will continue to advise people I know personally or aquaint with, never to use the same in future. My mother is a government employee too & she is a staff member with the NRCH (northern railway central hospital). Infact, she was with me at the time this misfortune happened. Around 9 am today, we went to the CP metro station & my mother bought a token for Kohat Enclave & paid Rs. 13 to the lady who was sitting at the counter. She happened to be the sole person sitting at the counter at that time. When we reached Kohat Enclave, I was unable to pass through the exit. The lady guard who was standing right next to the pass-ways, frisked the coupon & asked me to follow her to some kind of enquiry room where a man named Subhosh Kumar told me that the token I was carrying was worth Rs. 12 due to which I am supposed to pay a fine for Rs. 51. Isn't that preposterous? I paid Rs. 13 at the Rajiv Chowk metro station & this man is trying to tell me that just because the woman who was sitting at that counter was not competent enough & gave me an incorrect token, I am liable to pay for that. I vehemently refused to pay & told this man that it is the fault of the lady who gave me this token. There was a lady manager at that time & both this man & the manager lady made me & my mother wait for eternity saying that they are getting things checked at the Rajiv Chowk station & IF there is a discrepency found, we can go. They did not let us go out of their sight. They made us feel like some kind of terrorists. I had an appointment with my eye doctor in Kohat Enclave at 10 am which I ofcouse missed since the Kohat Enclave metro staff were so headbent on humiliating & harassing my middle aged mother & myself. Ofcourse none of them were getting any cash registers checked as they kept saying to us & just ordered us to wait. Surprisingly, the lady guard who was standing next to the exit passways, was letting people pass even though their tokens did not seem to work; just like mine hadn't. Out of sheer resentment & frustration, I paid Rs. 51 just to appear for my appointment; which I anyways missed. I'd like to ask you, if I really had to cheat you, why would I do that for 1 rupee? Did I get any richer? NO. I sure didn't. But I'm sure the Delhi Metro management sure has gone richer. Come to think of it, I don't know how many innocent people are fooled like this. I think it's all pre-planned. An incompetent woman sitting at the Rajiv Chowk cash counter gives incorrect tokens to people & probably conveys it to the people sitting at the counter where the passenger has to get off... only to be fined. When a person is travelling by Metro, with a maddening crowd behind & ahead.. everything is super-fast. And that's exactly how we are duped.

Today I have really come to know why government employees are given bad names. All the employees whom I came across today at the Delhi Metro stations are in my opinion, highly incompetent. They should be sacked right away. I have sworn never to use the Delhi Metro & I will continue to tell everyone I know about this incident that happened with me & discourage them from using the Metro as well. My mother who got a Smart Card made for herself is giving it up too. My father, just like me, has also sworn never to use the Metro ever again.

Maybe losing me as a customer does not hurt you anymore than it hurts me to not travel in the metros. However, from now on.. I have nothing positive to say about the Delhi Metro & its employees. What will pacify me as of right now is an apology letter from all those incompetent employees who harassed me today & my money to be refunded. I'd rather throw Rs. 51 out of my window than shell it on a bunch of people who don't know a thing about customer service.

All the accidents that Delhi Metro is facing.. I think it's because innocent people are duped just like I was today. Somewhere all of us pay for our bad actions. Everyone doesn't voice their opinion; but I do. I have posted a similar thing on my blog & also mentioned about this on all my online communities. At the end of the day.. I'm glad that over 1000 people today itself.. have come to know about my misfortune & i hope that they too learn from my mistake & never use the Delhi Metro.
