By an advt. inserted by the TRAI on May 5 in all leading newspapers of NCT, TRAI has wantonly given a certificate of performance inter alia to Vodafone. The ad. contains the "Comparative Performance of Telecom Service Providers in Delhi Service Area, Key Quality of Service (QoS) Parameters for Quarter Ending December”/”Cellular Mobile Telephone Services”, based on the “Data Reported by Service Provider” AND NOT AS PER ANY SURVEY OF THE USERS. It is not clear as to how, without making even a token/random opinion survey, the self-reported data of the Mobile Service Providers were considered proper and justified, in public interest, to be publicised by way of wasting public money through insertion of these ads. And, going by the very poor service of the above named company (as per the pages of this very site itself) and its most cavalier attitude towards its customers, it is strange that the most unresponsive statutory body, viz., TRAI, from which responsible senior citizens do not get any replies to their letters, should find it expedient to do so. One is inclined to wonder if such insertion of ads., based on the (unverified) data furnished by the Service Providers themselves, does indeed form part of the mandate given to the Authority by the Parliament. Through your website, I wish to draw the attention of the Central Govt., the administrative ministry concerned and the numerous consumer groups of this country to this novel way of certifying the quality of service of the mobile service providers.
