An appeal

An appeal to all the Senior Citizens of the Country not to invest in Post Office without nomination

&

An appeal to Government of India to make it mandatory for post office officials not to accept any deposit from any Senior Citizen without compulsory Nomination both in Term Deposits and related Savings Bank Accounts

Otherwise

There is lot of harassment, mental agony and tons of inconvenience in store for them in getting their dues.

In the next page, there is a live example of how I have been suffering at the hands of the officials of Post Office, I.P. Estate, New Delhi for the last over 3 months

My Mother, Late Smt. Asha Gupta, had made the following deposits with IP Post Office, I.P. Estate, New Delhi in Senior Citizen Savings Scheme and nominated me as her sole nominee.

Rs. 10, 00, 000 (Rupees ten lacs only) vide Account No.350269 on 1st September.

Rs. 5, 00, 000 (Rupees five lacs only) vide Account No.502866 on 26th October.

My mother expired on 28th August and I was paid the proceeds of the above deposits along with interest after completion of all formalities in this regard.

I was told at the time of receipt of the proceeds that the payment being made to me includes the total interest due on these deposits. Now, I have been informed by my Chartered Accountant that the interest accruing on these deposits for the period 1st April to 30th September has not been paid to me. This amount has instead been credited to the Saving Account No. 17235 maintained by her.

I requested the Post Office authorities and personally met Mr. S.P. Sharma, Post Master requesting him to release the interest for the unpaid period lying in her Savings Account as the Savings Bank Account was an offshoot of the main deposit account of my mother and it was not my mistake that the Post Office authorities did not register nomination in Savings Account.

However, this plea was not accepted and I was asked to fill a detailed form (bearing form no. SB-84) wherein I had to obtain the signatures of two Members of Parliament, once again attach all proofs of identity, although Post Office authorities had released to me 10 days back sums of the main deposit account.

And this form was submitted by me in the middle of March and over 2-1/2 months have passed and there is no sight of the sum of Rs. 61, 290.35 being the interest due for the period 1st April to 30th September. My mother expired on 28th August and the deposits matured on 31st August and 25th October and even after expiry of 6 months, I am struggling with Post Office Department to get my dues which is being delayed on frivolous grounds, even after completing all formalities in this regard. More so, inspite of many calls made to Mr. S.P. Sharma, over the last 45 days and number of visits made to the Post Office, the reply is only evasive and vague and every time they say that we are seeking approval from Head Office.

I request the authorities to kindly intervene and get the my dues released as soon as possible.
