After accepting charges and recharg amt, the numbrt was closed without any reason or explaination

I had an old post paid number. It was in service for the last FOUR years. Later I expressed the desire to change it to prepaid number keeping the number same. I paid the charges plus the documents and later I I recharged it for Rs.500/- The phone was under whole life incomming free scheme. Later when I I left for Australia, the phone was disconnected without any refund, explaination or any reason given for the disconnection. Contacting the Customer Care, I was informed since the services have been deactivated nothing can be done. How come all this? My cell phone number is/was 91 9818255462
