Dear Sir,

I have been using a blackberry airtel service (number 9717770591) for a year upto March. I work for the UN and have been posted to Kenya now. Before leaving i wanted to cancel my phone in India so I went to the airtel relationship centre. They told me first three months its better to leave it in safe custody, after which it will automatically be cancelled. I said I dont need the phone as I am moving, but they kept insisting, I said is it gonna cost me anything, the Relationship center said no. They made me call using a landline in the centre to office. The person on the telephone confirmed that the phone is in safe custody, I said what is the proof they said, they have made the changes and its been done. Now I am in Kenya for over 6 months now and like the centre said I thought it would have been cancelled, so i forgot about it, as I dont need an indian number.

Two days later i get calls from my friends in India, that somebody is threatening them with legal notice for an unpaid bill. I was surprised and i called the number back, from which the calls came. This guy sameer who claims to be an advocate for airtel. Says that since i didnt cancel my phone its being charged. I asked him why are you calling my friends, if you were from airtel you will have my registered email with you. He says its blocked and he is talking non sense that he is calling only those who are very close to me in a sarcastic way. I am absolutely shocked that, having followed a procedure properly as said by Airtel relationship centre in galleria gurgaon, and always been a prompt bill paying customer, I am made to go through this harassement and made to make calls all the way from Kenya.

He claims, my phone is now active, although I have not used the sim since March since i put it in safe custody and cancellation. He says the bill period is May to July. How is this possible, when the sim is off and I am in Kenya? Is this a prank, or does Airtel takes pleasure in harassing its loyal customers? I have always had airtel connection since the time i bought my cell phone and have always paid my bill on time. I have always followed procedures. So why is this false bills? and harassing phone calls, not just to me, but to all my friends?

I have followed the instructions by the relationship centre, who said after three months of safe custody the sim would automatically expire and cant the people realize someone who has paid bills regularly how is defaulting? arent airtel departments connected at all. The customer has clearly moved out of country, the airtel guys forced him to put up safe custody when he wanted to cancel it, and lied that it will automatically cancel, and now harassing him through some thugs. I do not owe anything to airtel, but airtel still owes me the 1500 deposit i made for ISD calls. Which I have had no time collect. Now this false bills are put on a phone thats disconnected.

I would like to take this matter to court. Please advice me.
