I booked a return ticket from Hyd-New York on 21/07 via Emirates airlines through Baghdadi Travels in Hyderabad. The travel agent I booked with initially misled me and advised that the ticket needed to be purchased within 24 hours for that price he quoted to me whereas the price was valid for 48 hours which I came to know later. Anyhow, after booking the ticket my travel situation changed and I requested to cancel the ticket within 24 hours of booking it. The agent then advised me that the refund cannot be issued until Aug 1st week because of the accounting cycle, etc.
I insisted him to give me a Post dated cheque (PDC) before I leave hyderabad as I was now flying on a separate itinerary (booked by my husband's office). After repeated calling and visiting him, he issued me a PDC to be deposited on the 6/8. Because I had left India before that date, I left the PDC with a friend to deposit in bank which she promptly did only to be advised by the bank (SBI) that there are not enough funds in the travel agencies' account. We repeated the same exercise a week later and still there was not enough fund to withdraw the amount of my ticket refund (Rs 54500). Frustrated with this service I called the travel agent from U.S (where I am currently located) and he advised taht there is some issue with the a ccounts which are in negative balance and he will sort it out. We have been calling the accounts and finance incharge of the travel agent repeatedly and he keeps changing the story everyday. Initially he asked us to return the old cheque to be issued with a new one. When someone form India approached him for the exchange, he advised that he will give the refund in cash next week!!
My husband and I are really frustrated with this attitude and we would like to get our money back. We would also like to warn the other consumers of the attitude and the shady dealings of this travel agent. Undoubtedly, the big names and businesses are all not really an indication of the honesty and fair dealing of the companies.
