I had purchased goods worth Rs. 582.00 in Reliance Fresh, Fraser Town, Bangalore 56005 on 18.07.2012 and gave my AMEX card. The counter staff swiped it once and as she did not get any response, went to another EDC machine and swiped it again. When I came home, I found from SMS messages that there are two charges of Rs. 582 each against my Card. I contacted AMEX who also confirmed that there are two debits to my a/c.
I went back to the shop and informed the Supervisor in charge. I called AMEX from his phone and AMEX staff told him that the charge has been billed twice. Despite this, he was not willing to refund the amount since he did not how to reverse the transaction or the Merchant Code to inform the service Department of AMEX. He has promised to look at his day end operations and get back to me.
He should have responded when he got the confirmation from AMEX. I do not know how long this will take though I have disputed the charge with AMEX.
