I had made a purchase of Rs 33300 on 29th of July in New Delhi 5.57PM. Instantly (within 30 mins) I got a call from HDFC asking if I wanted to convert it into EMI with no processing fees. To which I said I would call in half an hour and let them know. But when I called I couldn’t get through. Next day (30th July) I called again. The executive on the other end said the merchant hadn’t claimed the money so it couldn’t be converted into EMI and I could call on Monday/Tuesday to check and then covert the Rs 33300 into EMI for 6 months. I checked & re-checked if I would be charged any processing fees to which she explicitly said no.

Today (2nd August) I called the customer care number again and I was told that I would have to pay the processing fees as well. The executive also told me that the girl I spoke to on 30th was new and maybe gave me the wrong info. I spoke to a senior manager (Malti) also after that and she told me I wouldn’t get any waiver of processing fees.

In spite of wasting 30 mins of my time on the phone haggling with her, she refused to accept my request. She kept repeating that the scheme was valid only till the 30th and I can’t get any waiver. However, she insisted that she could take my request to convert the amount into 6 months’ EMI with the processing fees. She also told me that the executive I spoke to (on 30th July) says she didn’t say anything of this sort.
