I have been purchasing travel insurance regularly from Icici lombard for myself and for my entire family for the past 4 years. last year dec I actually needed to use it. It was the worst and most embarrassing experience of my life. The company claims to tie up with UNITED HEALTHCARE in the US which is why i purchased this insurance. They even give you an ID card with your details and ID number with UH when you purchase your insurance. But this I realized is a big SCAM. When the time came to use the insurance, let alone letting me know of the benefits involved, I wasn't ON THE UH SYSTEM!!! They had no intimation of me as an insured party! I spent several days and hours with ICICI lombard from my trip abroad, i made calls to UH myself, but nothing got done. I needed a small surgery which needed a clearance. I can understand if they wanted to deny me that, but not finding me on their systems was just ridiculous. I had to come back earlier than scheduled to have the surgery done in mumbai. The only thing the claims dept was good at was to call/mail me to send them documents so that they could reimburse USD 35 out of the USD 135 that I spent at the OPD! My policy number was 4030/W-5230777/00/000 . Please do not ever buy insurance from them.
