Hi,

Due to some ambiguity in activated PAN number, I am unable to file the return. In I received a letter from Income Tax dept about 2 PAN number issued to me as per ITAX database so they cancelled my old PAN and suggested to use new PAN. I discussed the matter with AO (Assessing officer) and as per his suggestion, submitted an application to activate my OLD PAN and to cancel new PAN.I also filed the return in same year using my OLD PAN which was accepted by ITAX AO. I continued to use the old PAN and filed all of my return with old PAN only. Recently when I contacted ITAX about my refund for year I came to know from ITAX and NSDL that my old PAN was not activated and so return was not processed.

I followed-up with NSDL and ITAX but that didn't helpso please suggest:

1. What would happen to my old return that i filed using my deactivated PAN and how could I get it corrected and get refund.

2. For year I received form 16 having my old deactivated PAN so unable to file the return as old PAN does not exist in ITAX database when I try to file the return while if I use new PAN then it will not match with PAN as mentioned in From 16.

3. Is it possible to get my old PAN activated and then I can cancel my new PAN .

I have been following-up with NSDL and ITAX for last 3-4 month but still there is no resolution. Any suggestion/help would be appreciated.
