INDIGO AIRLINES
Harassment to pregnant Women

Dear Sir/Mam,

I was at 33 weeks of maternity on the day of Journey (18th April). Following were my booking with Indigo Air Lines. I was traveling with my Brother in Law “Mr Ramesh Kumar”.

• Hyderabad to Jaipur – 18th April - 20:50 -- 6E 152– PNR – T36PLB

Indigo person incharge Hyderabad Airport, didn’t allow us to travel on that day. Initially gave us both the boarding pass. After sometime they asked to produce “Fit to Fly” certificate. I was carrying “Fit to Fly” certificate given by our doctor at Hyderabad. It told that they allow only till 32 weeks but nothing was mentioned in the ticket. and i was carrying the certificate as advised by my doctor.

I have produced following items

• All the maternity documents from Hyderabad Vikram Hospital by “Dr G. Premlatha” dated 17th April. Everything was normal with my scan reports.

I was ready to sign on “indemnity bond” and I was very much fit to travel. I also said I will travel on my risk.

Even with all those documents they have stopped us to travel on 18th April from Hyderbad to Jaipur.

I have following question

• Why Indigo stopped me to travel at 33 week of normal pregnancy where as all other airlines in the world are not so strict till 34weeks of pregnancy.

I request Indigo Airlines to take following actions.

• Refund “Six Thousands Rupee or 6794.00 RS” to my credit card. I was told that i will be given a Indigo credit on my name which can be used in a span of one year. but it is not acceptable as i need to book my tickets by some other airlines which allows me to travel in 33 weeks.

I have checked the pregnancy rules with following air lines

• Air India

o At the time of making the booking, if the pregnancy is beyond 32 weeks, upto and including 35 weeks, a medical certificate from the attending physician must be obtained stating that she is fit to travel.

• King Fisher

o For travel within India, an expectant mother is permitted to travel till the end of 36th week without a medical certificate provided there are no prior medical complications

• JetLite

o Expectant Mothers, till the end of 35 weeks of pregnancy may be permitted to fly on JetLite flights provided there are no prior complications.

Thanks and regards,

Renu Sharma
