I have installed K&N Universal filters a while back from Bangalore, Karnataka state (Dealer name: Car Fancy*) to my Hyundai Santro (Model XP). Now recently i had moved back to kerala state, cochin and i stay at Kakkanad
My K&N filter seems to be broken off from the pipe. The rubber is split and now i cannot reinstall this back.
Initially, the K&N filter was not properly installed as the rubber part of the filter was installed to the cone metal pipe using a plastic wire and the filter was falling off very often. Later i got this fixed from the same shop. They have re-installed the rubber part of the filter to the cone using a metal strap.
Between the initial installation and re-installation, most of the time the filter was seen removed from the metal pipe and because of this, i strongly believe the mileage (KM/Litre) of the car had reduced as the car was breathing impure air. Iam yet to to get the technical details from my service guy.
Now iam facing this issue where the filter rubber is split and filter had fallen off. On Apr 24, I had send a mail to K&N email customer care list to look into this issue. On the same day I called up "PENINSULAR HONDA" on mobile number ' 919895911066'. The guy who spoke to me refered me to Mr. Shamim (Mobile number : 919895023220). Mr. Shamim suggested to re-install my old filter (which iam not sure where it is) and drive down to his workshop/service center. Mr. Shamim also updated that
- They need to check how the filter had installed and if the current installation is not proper, they may need to re-install the whole unit
- They normally charge 1500 to install the whole filter unit, so, as i had already installed this unit, he will consider giving a discount
I was expecting that Mr. Shamim will offer a quick checkup today itself as i cannot drive down without an filter
I don't mind spending less than 1500 for this. But what is the guarantee that this issue will never come up again. Also, as i assume, installing K&N filter depends on where we install it, how to make sure that Mr. Shamim does a perfect installing.
Atleast, i was expecting KN Filters to reply to my email and to suggest on what to do
This issue had spoiled my saturday and my time though iam still not sure to go back to my old filter, removing K&N. Anyway, i have decided to leave the car in garage till i fix this issue with K&N . Let us finalise on Where to Install and How to Install
