I use a Maruti Swift 2009 May VDi.. Offlate from past 3 months I am having an issue with the 3rd gear. I am unable to run the car in 3rd gear.
The moment I shift the gear to 3rd one, the gear lever starts vibrating and performance of the car is dead.
Finally I decided to take the car to Sagar Automobiles - Bangalore - Bannergatta Rd.
The service engineer now says, this is a common problem in Swift VDi. They need to check and replace the Synchroniser ring for which they have to open the gear box.
I checked online for reviews on this problem and majority of the customers have expressed their unhappy and Maruti being aware of this issue on large scale have kept the customers in dark.
Few also say that this problem is only in Diesel version and is rectified in 2010 model. But mine is 2009 model.
Also to get the repair done it will take about a week or two.
I am really unhappy with this stunning revelation for a brand as Maruti and such a top class car. And the cost of repair of this problem is high.
Please advise how to go about this.

Car Make n Model: Swift Diesel Vdi.
Kms run : 50k
Kms from when the issue started : 35k approx.
Steps taken to rectify: Took it for Sagar Automobiles - Bangalore for review. They said they will get it fixed since it should be a minor and will be at minimal cost which will be covered in service itself.
Now I tool it about about 3 months since I 1st reported the issue to them, they say its an issue with gear box, and will take about 1 or 2 weeks to get it fixed.
I have never seen car having gear box issue for such less usuage.
I also have Skoda Octavia (35Km run, Scoprio (1Lakh Km run) and Santro (85Km run) till date I have no issues with gear box of any of these cars.
I definately now to drive well and have knowledge about maintenance of diesel car.
