DISCOM Jodhpur
Hazardous 11 kv low running line in front of houses

In CHB 11 kv line running all through the colony is very low on domestic supply type low height poles, running even lower than domestic 220v supply line along the row of houses 17E/41 to 17E/50, dangerously loose wires sparking with wind and occasionally touching domestic garden bushes and small trees such as banana, bael, with dangerously unpleasant shocks to children and unawares particularly during showers and windy days. Several complaints for the past 5 or 6 years resulted in no remedial measures. A labour died of electrocution during the construction of house No. 17E/57. Visits by Xen/JEn (recently on 13/14 May) give lip service in the form of appreciation of the problem and verbal instructions to staff to heighten the wires. Now DISCOM officials rule out any possibility to increase the height of poles or change the live nude wires into insulated or cable wires. They seek cooperation from residents in action, by cutting away garden plants and watch for children and animals to keep away from surrounding of the line. Even transformers at several places are placed very low, with naked joints and junctions. There is no reply to query as to what should be the height of 11 kv line from ground and its distance from the authorized boundary of houses, or how much it should be above or below the domestic 220v line.
