Dear Sir,

I am Sumam V., working in Reserve Bank of India, Thiruvananthapuram, happened to be your customer. I have purchased a Sony digital camera (Cybershot 7.2 mega pixel) from your authorized dealer’s shop at Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. On 24/01/08, I approached the same dealer with a problem to that camera. The problem is that the camera is going off automatically while working but in the mean time we can take photographs – somewhat like loose contact. They discussed with each other, went inside with the camera, I have waited there for half an hour. Then they said “the camera is in good condition, intake of charge is not happening because your charger is damaged, though your camera is under warranty charger has no warranty, so better have a new charger”. They charged the camera and took photographs in my presence. After confirming 2-3 times that the problem is with the charger, I bought a new charger for about Rs.3000/-. I also took some photographs, at home, that day. The next day the same problem repeated. I went to your authorized service centre at Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram, near by the dealer’s shop, with that camera. They said that the problem will be informed to me after examination and that my old charger is not damaged, it is in good working condition. Though my camera is under warranty period, they are not ready to accept the same, for their reason that scratches are there on it. They are blaming the company that the company won’t give them warranty. They say that the lens of the camera is damaged and I have to pay more than Rs.5000/- to get back my camera.

With the new charger, which is of no use to me, I went to the dealer’s shop and asked to refund the amount taking back the charger. Very happily they said that the charger was under shortage and just then a customer came for a charger but they could not give him. Then after discussion they told me to wait for some time so as to consult with somebody else. As I was in hurry- on permission from bank- giving them my telephone number I left the shop. The next day I happened to leave Thiruvananthapuram for a two week training programme at Chennai. So my friend went to the shop for cash, as have agreed earlier, but they didn’t give the cash saying that the charger was not yet sold. Till now they have not telephoned me. But from the service centre I have received 10-12 phone calls to come and collect the camera paying them more than Rs.5000/-.

Sir, I am helpless. To get back my camera, I have to loose about Rs.9000/-, though it is under warranty period. Sir please advice me what I have to do. I have lost faith in them. I am using the mobile set of your company without any problem. An early reply is awaited.
