Subject: Cheque returned due to HDFC failures

I had a requirement to issue a cheque for amount Rs 1000 on 23rd March. I issued it on that day after verifying the followings.

1. Current balance (which is Rs 1156.06)

2. Whether all my previous cheques are enchased (yes, no pending cheques)

I assume above two are the mandatory and possible verifications has to be done by account holder before issuing cheque.

On 28th March, I have received a information that cheque that I have issued for Rs 1000 got returned due to lack of balance in account. After some analysis I have found that HDFC bank reduced amount Rs 220.60 on March 27th as a tax for the cheque cleared on March 14th (3RD PARTY CASH TXN INC ST & EC 140309). In the same day (28th march) HDFC reduced amount 350 from my account for check returning charge.

All these happened because of HDFC’s delay in reducing Rs 220 from my account. I have the following simple questions

1. If you can charge me for check return WITHIN A DAY, Why did you take more than 12 days to reduce the tax amount from my account?

2. While issuing a cheque, I verified as much as I can, but how can I know about my liabilities to bank?

My observation is, delaying the withdrawal for more than 12 days is not good for the bank. For example If I made my account balance to zero and moved to another city, this will cause loss of Rs 220 to bank. It may look small amount if this happens in larger scale then it will be a disaster.

So, I would like to assert you that HDFC BANK IS RESPONSIBLE for all these miseries happened to me in last week. I have following damages due to your bank

1. Mental pressure

2. Damage in my reputation with my counterpart (to whom I issued a cheque)

3. Loss of Money

4. Loss of Time

I humbly and kindly request you to take a proper damage control and response from your side.

However If I did not get any proper response from your side I would consider about following alternatives

1. Legal proceedings against the bank

2. Inform major Banks about this incident and try to organize negative advertisement against your bank.

Thanking you

Yours Sincerly
