Repair of sofa settee

I purchased a sofa settee from a shop (Indoo Furn, New #76/2, Old #118, Arcot Road, Porur, Chennai-600116) on 18/05 (EB No: 1788 for Rs. 17, 000). At the time purchase they had assured us that they will solve/repair in case of any problems. There was no written commitment on this. In June this year we found that the settee’s rexin cover started tearing near the stitched area. I went to the shop & made an oral complaint to the proprietor. He promised me he would be sending a person to see what could be done. After repeated reminders over phone & in person, they had sent a person to inspect the furniture in the 1st week of Aug. Nothing happened after that. On 23rd Aug I send an email (to the ID given in the visitors card they had given me) asking them to take the necessary action, which got bounced back. The same letter was delivered to them in person on the 29th of Aug. They told me, the company who had supplied the furniture, should send somebody to repair. He made some phone calls also asking them to send somebody, in front of me.

A person came to my place to repair (stitch the torn area) the settee on 01/09/09. We did not permit him to repair because the person came with a different coloured thread & also we thought it wouldn’t help solve the issue. He told us he would inform it to the concerned people (his manager as well as the shop people). Nothing happened after that. Now the rexin started tearing at another place.

I wanted to know whether you could help here or do I have a legal standing in this scenario.
