Deficiency of Services for Airconditioning

I had bought an LG Split Air conditioner Model LSA 12T1 AS1 (1 Tonne Split) on 21st Sep 07 for which I have a 4-year warranty on the compressor (3 years 1Year) as per their contract. This was installed a couple of days later when I found out that the compressor was totally dead. The only option was to replace the same which was done satisfactorily.

There have been a few minor glitches since then in that LED Display now shows the temperature in the units column but tenths column is blank. Also due to dust in the outdoor unit, I faced a problem of immense condensation & water leakage which was handled without much ado. The display problem persists, incidentally even my brother has an identical model, both of us having bought & installed these on the same day. In my brother s case the PCB had to be changed as his remote was just not responding due to a proximity sensor error. This remains intact to this day.

Major issues cropped up in 2009. This year was when I believe the life of this unit was stretched & it reached its break even. Cooling is omnipresent concern as my main idea behind buying an Air conditioner was to combat the humidity concerns in Mumbai. This is real grouse as just fans cannot do the job in high humidity coastal areas. Also benefits of cool fresh air & ambience has become a facet of life these days which we can t do without

Recently as 7th Sept 10, my compressor stopped cooling for no apparent reason. A complaint was raised with Ms. Space Engineering (Authorised LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd Service Centre) ; Ref# HLQ C/1090618069 dated 06/09/10. Space Engineering Details are TIN: 27510323599V & TCR No. K17068/A/2038. My Invoice No. was 2038. I had paid Rs.400 for only Service Visit Charges & a capacitor was replaced. This was meant to take care of the problem

Thereafter, the compressor started making loud noises when working & the cooling problems have exacerbated. Cooling now occurs only at 24 degrees not lower or higher

Also the remote has now stopped working so for On/Off the main switch is the only way the unit is operable when we need it. A second complaint Ref # C/1092122476 dated 21/09/10. I had requested that a technician visit on 25th Sept 10 as I could take leave from office, it being a Saturday. However except for my calling the Call Centre nos. on 022 3901 0909 3 times to get details of when the technician would come, I had to wait the entire day to no avail. In the morning when I d called I was told that my complaint is being attended to on a priority basis 3 times? What priority is this!!

I was given the number of a technician Shafi Ahmed # 8898273573 whom I as a customer was supposed to call. Besides the Call Centre gave me the number of Space Engineering 64201661 which was out of service. Also Mr. Shafi Ahmed was not at all reachable the whole day. This smacks of callousness & incompetence on the part of LG

I would be very shocked at myself if I ever purchase an LG product ever again. There was no effort to ensure any service, co-operation or even honor a commitment to a customer.

From my past experience (I have worked with LG in Middle East) Service was always a major deficiency or weakness with their distributors. This facet has not changed since and unfortunately as a customer, I am being put through the grind because of it. It s almost a 5 days since a complaint was lodged, and there has been no effort to either placate, console or more importantly any efforts to rectify customer concerns. Truly I hope there is a turnaround otherwise no one is going to buy any more LG products!!
