Non availability of service centres

I have purchased a NOKIA model N1202 mobile set on 3.11.2008 from Wavetel Stores at R K Mutta Road, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai 600028. The mobile set suddenly stopped functioning and I tried to charge the battery but in vain I took the mobile set to Wavetel from where I purchased it and I was surprised when I was told that the mobile set has to be taken to the NOKIA service centre situated at Teynampet Chennai 18, the only service centre authorised by the manufacturer. When I requested them to accept the mobile set and send it to the service centre, they refused and insisted that I should handover only at Teynampet which is quite far from my residence at Raja Annamalaipuram. Nokia, for the number of mobile that they sell in a metropolitan city like Chennai should make arrangementrs to accept the defective mobile set for verification and repairs, at difference centres instead of confining to only one centre at Teynampet. I fail to understand how the mobile set could become defective within 9 months of its purchase.

Can we approach the consumer court against the manufactuere for the failure to provide service centres at ther same place where the set has been sold or create service centres in each and every locality in Chennai City. We have not been informed that in case of any defect or failure in the mobiule set, we should approach their service centyre at Teynampet only.
