I purchased a new Nokia N79 on 28th April 09 from Planet M (Issardas Tilusing - Shop No. 2, Navsari Building, 240 D.N. Road, Fort Mumbai - 400001. Tel No. 2207 1139). From day one the phone was hanging every couple of hours. I called the very next day but they said the person in charge (Tanveer) would come in only after 4pm. I went at 7pm and he wasn't available, so I showed the condition to other staff present, just to make a record of the problem. I requested to change the model and they refused. They even refused to give me in writing that the phone was hanging because I said I wanted to go to consumer forum.
Even though I had paid for additional 1 year warranty - after paying I was informed that Warranty card was not in stock. They said they'd send it over to my office by next evening - till today (22nd May 09) it has not arrived.
I visited the shop again next day and Tanveer did some setting on the phone after which phone stopped hanging. I used only basic features and few days ago when I checked the manual, I tried to activate a free n-Gage game for which I was provided a code in the user manual - to my horror I discovered that the n-Gage menu was not visible at all. I called Planet M and I was told to go to a Nokia service centre.
Today I went to Nokia Service Centre and they said that the guys at Planet M should have set up the phone for me, and if I wanted Nokia to do it, I would have to leave phone with them for atleast a day. Why should a consumer of a high-end new phone be put through this kind of treatment - I have tried to keep this concise and can provide all details regarding the how much precious time was wasted. I solicit help from the consumer forum in this matter.
