The Inidan passport system is one of the inefficient system of Indian Government.
I happened to apply for renewal of passport and then found out the foolish and pathetic pitfalls in the verification and processing of Passports.
I was issued a Passport by Indian govt. 10 years back, approx in the year 1998 and as per the rules a Police men came to my house for verification and was scratching his head for money. My father gave him a cup of coffee and showed him the door saying "entertaining a govt. officer with bribe is offence" and gave him a lecture explaining him to do his duty without expecting any benefit from that as he is already paid salary by the govt.
The police constable/officer was not satisfied and hence he did not submit the paper. But still the GREAT Indian Passport System issued me a valid passport for 10 years and I was very greatful for that.
After 10 years, when I went for re-issue/renewal of passport, the trouble started. The Tatkaal verification officer says Police verification is not submitted for the passport which was issued 10 years back, "I was shocked and surprised". The verification officer does not want to listen anything and she says go and apply through ordinary system.
When I met the Assistant Passport Officer of Trichy, she said, there is no Police verification number seen in our system, so we cannot do anything further. I could take any more from these officails and started to show my frustration by asking them whether it is the duty of the Passport Office to collect all the pending details or it the duty of the Passport holder to check all this? No answers, only blank look.
The Indian Passport authority does not bother to find any details about the passports for which police verification is pending even if it is more than 10 years :-) WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AND FOOL PROOF PASSPORT SYSTEM from INDIA.
Secondly, the officials who work for Indian Passport Office assume themselves to be GODS.. :-) They never know the meaning or the even the word POLITNESS.
When the same question was raised to Trichy Passport Officer Mr. S. Balachandran, he says they will be like that and he also expresses it in the same manner (funny people).
These people failed to realise that the are doing SERVICE and they are all Govt. Servants for whom the salary comes from the tax collected by the Indian Govt. from PUPLIC.
It so frustrating and funny about the Indian Passport Office. These experiences are from Trichy Passport Office which is in Tamilnadu.
