Expressions – Tumbhi Online Photography Contest - Digital Camera
Judgement Challenged

To

Tumbhi Photo Contest

Sir,

Kindly refer to Tumbhi Photo Contest December. The judging for shortlisted photographs is not accepted by the contestant and challenged as under:

1. Tumbhi photography December invited entries in five categories whereas the Contest organizers and judges omitted to shortlist their selection for the Category “MONUMENTS” as they did not find any entry from a KOLKATTA based photographer of their own choice. The judges also failed to make their judging report open for viewers. Since the complainant participated in the said contest under category “Monuments” and submitted under noted photographs, you please are requested to inform me of the judging report and shortcoming in my contest entries.

2 One of the entries by Kaushik Mazumdar with a kid and a goat is selected under category “PORTRAIT”. It is a “Candid” photo shortlisted in “Portrait” category by the judges indicating their choice for a Kolkata based contestant, hence judging being biased is challenged.

Is it a “Portrait” photograph? If so how do you define “Portrait”? The short listing of above referred entry under “Portrait” category is again challenged with reference to the under noted definition:

Portrait photography, From Wikipedia,

Portrait photography or portraiture is the capture by means of photography of the likeness of a person or a small group of people (a group portrait), in which the face and expression is predominant. The objective is to display the likeness, personality, and even the mood of the subject. Like other types of portraiture, the focus of the photograph is the person's face, although the entire body and the background may be included. A portrait is generally not a snapshot, but a composed image of a person in a still position. A portrait often shows a person looking directly at the camera. Storytelling photography conveys emotion, mood and ideas in which expressions are captured and the person will not need to be looking directly into camera.

Unlike many other photography styles, the subjects of portrait photography are often non-professional models. Family portraits commemorating special occasions, such as graduations or weddings, may be professionally produced or may be vernacular and are most often intended for private viewing rather than for public exhibition.

However, many portraits are created for public display ranging from fine art portraiture, to commercial portraiture such as might be used to illustrate a company's annual report, to promotional portraiture such a might be found on a book jacket showing the author of the book

3 Another entry under containing human “figure” by Huder Bulkley is wrongly shortlisted under “NATURE“category.by the contest organizers and judges. The rules to photographic competition are manipulated and “Thumbi Contest” is still under doubts hence judging is challenged by the constant as partial.

Are photographs of human figures or an object containing man made things are “NATURE”?

4 A total number of 5 Entries under “Travel” category by a Kolkatta based photographer are shortlisted by Thumbi Photo Organizers and Judges. Since the judges did not shortlist other participant with so many number of photo entries it clearly indicates their partiality for a Kolkata based contestant, hence judging is challenged.

The short listed are as under: Travel By Sudipto Das

5 A total number of 7 Entries by a Kolkata based photographer are shortlisted by Thumbi Photo Organizers and Judges under “Travel”, “Portrait” and “Festival” category. Since the judges did not shortlist other participant with so many number of photo entries it clearly indicates their partiality for a Kolkata based contestant. Further, the rule of “One Third and Composition” is neglected by the judges while judging entries under “Portrait” category. Hence judging is challenged by the contestant and complainant.

As such you please are requested to cancel the judging and short listings for December Thumbi Photo Contest and review the shortlisted entries again and inform me of the short coming of my contest entries.

Thanking you.
