I am a resident of Alapakkam near Vasarawakam in Chennai. For the past few weeks (more than two) the garbage collection has been stopped in my place. There are collectors who come to collect garbage from the street right opposite to mine as apparently some VIP stays there but when the same person is asked to collect garbage from our street he refuses. At first we used to keep garbage at the start of our street (20th street, Astalakshmi Nagar, Alapakkam) but it did not help. When the person who comes to collect garbage refused to collect it from our street, we began to place it on the main road so that he could collect it easily. Even then he refuses to collect the garbage. Now, there is stray garbage everywhere on the main road. This is highly unhygienic. Moreover, with the mosquitoes breeding nowadays in dumps and the fear of Dengue in the rise, I find it highly careless on the part of Chennai Municipality to completely ignore the plight in this area during such a situation.
