Exit clearance denial

I am a Kenyan Citizen and recently I visited India. On my way back, I was coming with my friends to Kenya on holiday (Indian Citizens). Although they had all documents, including a sponsorship letter from me and a return ticket, the immigration officers in Mumbai airport refused to give exit clearance and were returned out of the airport after boarding passes were issued and immigration stamped on passport.
