In 2009 when I heard that SM Krishna is bringing in reforms in the Passport issuing department, I was very happy and felt that finally India is going to offer world class service while issuing passport. Little did I know that when the time comes to apply for renewal, I would actually know the facts. In April, I wanted to renew the PP of my wife and kid which is due to expire in Jun. When I approach the RPO, they told me that I would have to go to thier PSK website, and get a appointment and then visit any of the preferred PSK to get the renewal done. It is more than a month that I have been trying to get a slot/appointment but everytime I get the message "No appointment slots are available for selected month in the selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). "
It is so disgusting to note that just for renewal of a passport (despite our address not changed for last six years), one has to wait to 1.5 month (and still waiting) to get an appointment. I think they are trying to promote Tatkal scheme where they just more than double the cost for renewal. In the old scenario, it was more easier to renew passport by just visiting the passport office and submitting the required documents followed by a Police verification. Now you are caught helpless and waiting for the appointment just to submit the papers. I found a lot of negative feedback about the PSKs and many people have complained of similar problems!
Mr SM Krishna, are you monitoring if the changes introduced are really helping the people or just would like to publish as one of the UPA achievements?
