Ahmedabad traffic police guards
Intentional harassment

VISHAL SHARMA,

To,

The Traffic Police Commissioner, Ahmedabad.

SUBJECT- COMPLAINT AGAINST THE TRAFFIC Police guards, khamasa cross roads, date 22-3-11, time 10 am to 10:45 am

Sir,

Today I was crossing through KhAMASA CROSS ROADS, around at 10 a.m. just near to the Police chowki, Because of some minor mistake I broke the traffic rule of crossing the signal. Then, I was stopped two police constables on the way, The name of the first constable was Ajit Verma (police security guard) and the name of the regular police constable I m not remembering exactly but it was something like syeed saifuddin but I don’t remember it exactly, but one thing was sure it was some Muslim Kind of the name. After that I said them ok it is my mistake I am ready to pay the fine but inspite of that both of them behaved with me in the absolute rude manner, they used the bad words in the gujarati language, they totally misbehaved and wasted my approximately 20 minutes, they did it intentionally to harass me and to waste my time. When I told them if u don’t behave properly I will go to the police station and complain about this, again they gave me the rude answer and told me to do whatever I want. They just behaved as if they were the head of the home ministry and the judicial system, when I told them I am going to complain about them to the Police Commissnor and Press, they again answered me in the absolute vulgar way, In the mean time they got hold of my driving license so I was there in the hopeless situation, where I could not speak anything and I alongwith the many people there who were passing down, I just had to witness the clear injustice and absolute misbehavior by the public servants. Then some senior official Mr Solanki came to me I explained him the entire situation, he apologized for his guards and he took the fine of Rs 50 which was justified, and gave me my driving license back. And I would like to emphasize on that why I was harassed and the answer is because I was ready to pay the fine and not the bribe and traffic guards were interested in taking the bribe.

But in the mean time I lost my precious 45 minutes because of these traffic guards, I was the victim of the absolute misbehavior, but this is not the question but the question is after two days we have got the big quarter finals here in Ahmedabad, which is the pride occasion for us and on the same time we are feared with some unseen terrorist groups. And in this time instead of understanding their duty properly these traffic guards are harassing the regular and innocent citizens, in this time they should be alert to check any big vehicles, or any suspicious person. My question is that when these guards were misbehaving with me during that session if some suspicious person would have passed, he could have passed very easily through the road because there was no attention of any of the guards on the regular traffic. So is this act justifiable? Till what time these traffic guards be engaged in these types of

activities, When they will understand their duties? I am writing this letter only to inform you that what is going on the roads and streets and mine is not the single example every now then the innocent people are harassed by the traffic guards, and big vehicles, the transport vehicles where some serious checking is necessary, go and pass through the roads by giving bribes to these security traffic police guards, Bribes of Rs 20, 30, 50 are now the common incidents for everyone, it has just become the system. So, I will like to draw ur attention on this important and serious problem, Because we all know that Ahmedabad is the sensitive region from the terrotist point of view and traffic checking and the alertness of the guards and traffic policemen are the important elements to check the terrorism, According to me every big vehicles should be thoroughly checked with the driver’s identity proof. Even the suspicious persons and luggage should be properly checked even in the two wheelers, forgetting that they are breaking the traffic rules or not, they have wore the helmets or not.

But instead of this here the traffic guards are only interested in filling their pockets and really it is very shameful that they have got no sense of responsibility. I would like and I would expect being a citizen of India, I demand some of the required and necessary actions against these traffic guards.

Jai Hind

Yours faithfully,

Vishal Sharma
