I have recently applied for and got my Passport issued by the Passport Office in Chennai. After I have received my Passport, I have noticed that their has been an error in my name printed on the passport. I have filled and submitted all forms correctly when I applied for the application and it clearly seems to be a clerical error that lead to the typo. So when I found out about getting it rectified, I was petrified to hear the solution suggested. I was asked to make a name change application with the Gazette Office in Chennai and then advertise the change in at least two local newspapers, the cost of which is approximately Rs. 7500. I have no words to describe how disappointed I was with the system. This is not my error. So why should I have to go through this painstaking process? Why should I bear brunt of someone else's mistakes. I do not have the money or the courage to fight the system. Can you please suggest what I should do?
