I had a similar experience with GKB Optolabs at CMH Road, Bangalore. I had purchased a frame and lens from them. In just 3 months time it happened to fall from a height of 2 ft to a soft mud surface and developed a major crack rendering it unusable. Whereas the earlier spectacles that I have worn for years together have had similar falls more than once without this poor fate. (Breakage on accidentally stamping on the specs or a something running over it is understandable). The irony is that GKB charges exorbitantly higher price than the other neighborhood ones for quality way too lower in terms of practicality. I lodged a complaint but as expected, got the response that they cover only damages to coating and not breakage as such as it does not qualify to be a manufacturing defect in their eyes. So in short, you may go to GKB for the well lit glassy ambiance and not for its usability.
Discouraging glass lens for higher margin plastic lens:
Secondly, they have some strange options to choose from where they don't recommend fixing a glass lens on a half rimmed frame and do not take up such requirements at all so that they can talk the customer to buying plastic lenses which come at even higher prices. Other vendors do take such orders and deliver reasonably strong and practical spectacles.
Altogether it has been a major disappointment for me.
