1 year warenty

I bought a 23watt.energy saver from a hardware store, who gave me a 1 year warenty... the attendant marked the date on the lamp it self... on returning the lamp.that lasted 2mts... he replaced it, but marked the date on the replaced as was that on the first lamp. Was he right... or should he have marked a new date... that's my Q.
