Monthly rental for modem

Dear sir,

i applied for the tri-band service provided by MTNL (MAHANAGAR TELEPHONE NIGAM LIMITED).

its been more than a year that i hv stopped taking its services..

i paid the bills regularly..but the service was very poor in quality, the internet service provided in this plan was the worst ever i used... i used to lodge complaints many times regarding the same..now i stopped continuing with these products..the modem given to us by the company was on monthly rental paid..i have paid the rent for the same..n now the rent paid is higher than the actual cost of the modem..but the official are demanding to give back the modem as i m not taking their services now... now please tell me..is their demand genuine for taking back the modem... if yes than why..please tell>..
