I am a Govt. Employee and got transfered to amritsar. I had purchased a new Airtel prepaid mobile connection no: 9501749515. Since i had just come to the city, i had given local address of amritsar (without proof) and had submitted copy of driving licence as my permanent address proof (delhi). After abt 10 days on 10th may when my family member tried to make an outgoing call, the call automatically got trnsferred to airtel call center who enquired abt address verification. My wife quoted the local address details as provided by me while purchasing the connection. not knowing the fact that the agent had entered only my permanent address. Hence, the address was not verified.
As i came back home, i lodged a complaint on 198 and enquired them immediately how the verification could be completed and my incoming call facility reactivated. I was informed that there could be temporary problem with the conection and was asked to wait for 48 hours. I got the complaint no. also. Even after that i kept enquiring abt status but after two days my ougoing facilty was also disconnected and when i complained to airtel office at cristal chowk, amritsar, i was told my no. has been permanently deleted and account balance of moe than Rs300 would be forfeited. After that they asked me purchase new connection and promised to transfer the balance to new no. in case previous could not be reactivated. But, nothing has happend till now.
My complaint is that when i myself that given correct address details, and had lodged a request for completion of verification, why my no. has been deactivated. The call center people say they are sorry for the mistake of their person who failed to guide me correctly on my complaint. Moreever, as regards adrress verification, i hope you wld appreciate the fact that for all govt employees and passport holders, address and creditials are aleady verified by Police and CID of the country and mobile companies sell postpaid connection w/o address veficiation to govt employees.
Though the matter would have been not too big, but the harrasment to an outstation person and the irresponsible attitude of airtel people ahs made me frustated and am now really thinking of going futher and complain to ombudsperson and even consumer court for harrassmnet.
Kindly help resolve the issue or provide me the no. of ombudsperson/or higher competent authority.
