I got a call on Sunday morning (april 25) from a woman from HDFC bank. She was extremely abusive from the word go. After I repeatedly asked her who she was, she curtly gave her name as Richa from HDFC bank. She won't even give her branch number and started abusing me at the top of her voice seeking the number of a long lost cousin sister whom I am not in touch with for years. I tried telling her that and she won't believe me and hurled abuses like, you bitch, fuck off, you sleep with how many men... etc, etc. I cut the phone but she kept on calling me. When I picked the second time, she started abusing me even more. Later, by calling many people for that cousin's number I found that it was a case of 7000 rupees which my cousin was supposed to pay a week before. Once the due date got over, and my cousin was not picking the phone, they started collecting families and friends' numbers. Later, when I spoke to my cousin, she said, she had asked them to come and collect the cheque but the woman (the same Richa) was very abusive and she got angry and put down the phone saying she will pay when she wants to. I tell you why she got angry with Richa. She asked her, are you your husband's second or first wife? Then she said, don't u sleep with him? When my sister said that is none of your business, she put down the phone saying you fuck off.
I am a senior journalist and will not let this go so easily. Because I know what my right is. I will not let go this particularly when they have no business to find my number and call me. I have not signed on any HDFC papers for my cousin and so how can they call me and abuse me like that? I myself has an HDFC account and this is how they behave with account holders! I want a written apology from HDFC by this week or else I will file an FIR seeking justice. The court has already given a judgement saying it can't hound relatives like that, particularly when I have nothing to do with it. I don't know whether writing on this forum helps, but I am doing it and will fight my case till I get justice.
