Asking for extra money/never send the statement

I had a credit card from HSBC number (4348599914363600). I used this card for a month and then after a long wait for the statement, i called the customer care, and they said my payment is due and due date is already expired, i was in a big shock as they never sent me any email, hard copy, or sms regarding my payment due. I settled the money and complained them to send me statement each month . but they never turned back and after 3 years they send me a letter saying, i have not paid the amount as 20000 . This is not done. If they would have informed me about my statement, i would have payed the amount on time . as per i remember, i tear down the card and given it to fire. May be i forget of paying around 5 thousands rupee. but is it not bank responsibility to send atleast a statement at regular time.
