I have a Credit card with HSBC & had bought the outstanding amount to a few thousand, then I stoped receiving the statements & presumed the card to be over. However now after a good year I suddenly received a call saying the outstanding amount is 80, 000, which is ridiculous. They kept adding late charges & interest & when the amount was sufficiently high they suddenly call out of the blue. The thing is that my mother & friend had gone through the same experience with HSBC. I am under no circumstances going to pay this amount. Please can someone advise me as to what can I do, as I had read about a similiar case which went to the courts & eventually went in favour of the consumer. I feel now the only option is to go to the courts.
