Dear Sir,
1. Stitching work order given for two sets of churidar's to Duron tailors bearing address as Duron tailors, near parthas, power house road, thiruvananthapuram - 695023. Phone 91 - 471 - 2474351.
2. Stitching charge was Rs 260 for each set. The tailor took measurements and presented a set of neck designs and asked to select the one that was suitable. I selected one that I liked.
3. At the delivery counter, I realized that one of the suits that I gave cannot be used at all, as the neck design pattern was completely different from what I chose during the time the work order was given and recorded in their work book. The neck size was too small that I just cannot wear the dress.
4. I said it would be impossible for me to use the dress and hence I do not want the damaged suit. There were seven men (I guess, one of them was the tailor and all others were workers at the shop) jumped on me shouting at me and yelling that I will have to pay for both the suits. If I do not want the dresses I can leave that with them but I will have to pay the stitching charges!
5. The reasons that they gave for their demand for payment were quite surprising and I have explained that below:
(i) tailors can make mistakes and customers have to bear the losses / damages. This is not America, this is kerala and things are different here (ii) I am a woman and hence I am not supposed to respond to their harassing behavior and attitude (iii) they have seen enough of women and have come across only those kind of women that accept their stitching, in whichever way they give. (iv) They diagnose "manasika rogham" and I have to be treated for the same!!! Finally, they declared their most surprising "discretion" that they will not give me either of the dresses that I had given for stitching as I said I won't pay for one of the sets that they spoiled!
6. Finally, an old man interfered and asked those 7 harassers to deliver one of the dresses that I thought I could use. I paid for that set. The other set they did not give and I did not pay stitiching charges either. However, I would definitely do whatever I can to expose the tailors' harassing behavior towards women.
7. Even though, I only said that I would not pay the stitching charges for the damaged set, now I demand compensation for the monetary loss as well. Either they have to give me back the dress material that I gave them or let them pay me the money for the material.
