Nokia 5800 xpress music
Under warranty faulty handset repaired again and again

Mobile phone handset: Nokia 5800 XPressMusic

Purchased on : 6th October

Purchased from: Bagga Communication, Palam Colony, New Delhi-110045

Bill No. : 22861, Book No.229

Problem: First – Alarm

Second – Memory Card

Alarm: If two or more alarms are set (eg. one alarm is set at 12.30 and second alarm is set at 12.32 or 12.34 or after that), then the alarms go off after three-four minutes of the scheduled time.

Memory Card: When the messages are set to be stored in the ‘Memory Card’ after two-three days a message displays on the screen that “Unable to access the selected memory. Messages will be stored to the phone memory”.

Solution: I went to the dealer i.e. Bagga Communication but no result even after two-three visits. I was told by the dealer to visit Nokia Care.

Afterwards all my visits were made at the Nokia Care at Om Ujala Communication, F-101, 102, First Floor, Krishna Plaza, Sector-4, Dwarka, New Delhi-110075.

On 22nd November visited Nokia Care at Om Ujala Communication, Dwarka, New Delhi. I was told that the problem is of the software and as the server is not working, I can come any other day.

On 29th November again visit the Om Ujala Communication and this time I was told that the problem is of the software and after the software is updated both the problems will be sorted out. The engineer told me that all the data will be lost. As I had no important data in the Memory Card I simply gave my consent. I was not told that even the phonebook will be lost. I was ignorant about it. Moreover, during my previous visit I was not told that the photocopy of the bill is also required. I had to rush to the market to get a photocopy of the bill. Anyway, the software was updated and the mobile phone was handed over to me and I was told that it is now okay. Having faith on the engineer’s words, I happily took the phone and went home. Nothing extraordinary happened i.e. the same problems persisted.

On 6th December I again visited Om Ujala Communication and complained about it. I was told that it might have happened because of some problem with the handset as well as the Memory Card and the phone will be sent to the company and the problem will be rectified. The phone was taken by the engineer vide Job Sheet No.224433527/091206/19 dated 6th December with due date 17th December for the Memory Card and Job Sheet No.224433527/091206/31 6th December with due date 16th December for the handset. Moreover, I was told that they themselves will call me. I was never called up but upon telephonic enquiry by me on 18th December, I was told that both are ready and I can collect them. I asked them to check whether both the problems have been rectified? I was then told that the checking will be done and I can collect the set on 20th December.

On 20th December I was told that the problem of alarm has been sorted out and the Memory Card has been changed. I took the mobile phone but this time did not leave the centre before checking it by myself. I set the alarms and the same problem was found. I told them about it and I was told that it has not been done by the company which means that I will have to set new alarms everyday. I did not agree to it but they insisted that I may take the phone along with me and try to set alarms by different methods. I did not understand but took the handset and went home hoping for some better results.

On 23rd December I was tired of setting alarms by different methods and I again got the familiar message i.e. “Unable to access the selected memory. Messages will be stored to the phone memory”. I immediately rushed to the Nokia centre where I was told that a new software is there which will definitely rectify the problem. The same procedure done. This time I knew that the phonebook will be deleted but I was fed up of coming again and again to the Nokia, the so called ‘Care’ Centre and I told the engineer to simply delete everything and rectify the problem. After doing some hit and trials I was handed over the handset again with the same smile and comment that it is working fine this time. As it was their closing time in the evening at around 1830 hours everyone was in a hurry. The engineer sent around 30-35 SMS to my phone but the message regarding Memory Card did not come up. I was told that they are sure that the alarm problem persists and I should check whether the problem of the Memory Card has solved or not. I asked them that if the message for Memory Card comes, should I take a photograph of it, just for a proof. They agreed to it. I, just like a perfect idiot, had to return back home.

Meanwhile, I was told that I should contact 0803303838 and lodge a complaint there and then give the complaint number to the Nokia Care Centre. This way, the complaint will be heard properly by the senior authorities. I contacted the Executive at 08030303838 and after listening to my complaint, the noble lady replied that I have been fed with misinformation. I have to deposit the phone to the Nokia Care Centre and then I have to give the job sheet number to the Executive at 08030303838. Well, like a fool, which I had been made by the Nokia Care Centre, I obeyed her also.

On 25th December I again got the same message for the Memory Card. The problem of alarm was never rectified. As 25th December was a holiday due to Christmas, I visited the centre on 26th December. They again checked for the problem with the set.By the way of their checking it looked like they are checking the handset for the first time. Anyway, I was told that it will be sent to the company again. The job sheet was again prepared numbering 224433527/091226/5 dated 26th December with due date of 10th January. This time I demanded that the problem is with the handset and it should be replaced with a new mobile set. I was clearly told that it is on the discretion of the company.

Disgusting on the part of Nokia Care Centre. This is not expected of even small companies.
