Furniture Mumbai
Defective and damaged furniture

Here are some experiences I would like to share with people who are looking for furniture in Mumbai, and especially in shops in Goregaon / Malad.

We had ordered bedroom furniture from a shop called FURNITURE MUMBAI / KIDZ DÉCOR / BEAN BAGS, etc (all owned by same person called Prakash Jiandani) and located at

Address 266/2112, Motilal Nagar No.1, Link Road, Near Vibgyor School, Goregaon (W), Mumbai - 400 104 (India)

State: Maharastra

Tel : 32668801/02/03 9320340444 9819314444

(website: www.furnituremumbai.in, www.kidzdecor.net) on 11 July and were promised delivery within 45 days. The cost was exorbitant and was quoted on the basis of use of pure Burma Teak wood. Fifty percent of the total was demanded as advance. Prakash deals in cash only and does not give any invoices. We offered to pay by cheque, but Prakash insisted on cash (Rupees Two Lakhs) only.

Our furniture was finally delivered on 30 Sep 2011 after repeated visits to the shop. During the interim period that the furniture was being made, we were required to be at beck and call of Prakash and visit his shop at his convenience. If we did not visit his shop at his convenience, he responded by saying that we were causing delays. This was despite giving Prakash highly detailed drawings of furniture and photos of designs required. The complete designing of the furniture was done b y us with zero input from Prakash or his staff. WE WERE BEING LITERALLY BLACKMAILED AS A HUGE AMOUNT HAD BEEN GIVEN AS ADVANCE PAYMENT! Despite being called to visit his workshop frequently, not once were we shown the furniture as fully assembled. When the furniture was ready for delivery, Prakash insisted on full payment prior to delivery and refused pointblank to send the furniture until FULL dues were cleared. THIS CONDITION WAS NOT DISCUSSED WITH US AT THE TIME OF ORDERING THE FURNITURE. If this was company policy, then it should have been told to us at the very beginning. IT WAS ONLY TOWARDS THE END WHEN THE FURNITURE WAS ALMOST MADE, THAT WE WERE TOLD TO MAKE FULL PAYMENT BEFORE THE FURNITURE LEFT HIS WORKSHOP. We had to pay the balance amount (Rupees Two Lakhs), again in cash, as the OPTION WAS TO EITHER LOSE OUT ON THE ADVANCE OR BOW DOWN TO PRAKASH’S WISHES. Payment was made in cash before offloading of the furniture was commenced in our building. We had offered to pay by cheque and pay VAT also but Prakash refused to take a cheque for the balance payment.

THE FURNITURE REACHED US IN DAMAGED CONDITION. ALSO, THE WOOD USED WAS NOT BURMA TEAK, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD BEEN CHARGED FOR IT. THE FINISH OF THE FURNITURE WAS AWFUL. WORST PART, THE STAFF SENT BY PRAKASH WAS UNABLE TO PROPERLY INSTALL AND ASSEMBLE THE FURNITURE for more than two working days! Also, all items were not even supplied.

To add insult to injury, the offloaders also damaged the walls in our flat. Prakash, of course, stopped answering our calls after receipt of full payment and we tried to communicate by sms. On one occasion when he chose to call back, on the third day after delivery, he rudely informed us that he will supply the balance items as and when he had the time. And his staff shall not carry out the repairs to damaged furniture, as - quote “we were demanding customers ” - unquote. During the installation and assembly of the furniture, Prakash refused to provide additional quantities of wood required to repair damages and told us to go and buy the material, and pay for it, if we wanted repairs. WE HAD TO GO AND BUY ADDITIONAL WOOD LOCALLY, AS THE FURNITURE WAS FALLING APART! He has refused pointblank to carry out the major repairs to damaged wardrobe doors, etc.

The condition of the furniture is so bad that now we have hired some people to repair and salvage the furniture. Let’s see how it works out, or whether we end up buying new furniture from some other store, or have it made at home.

ALL OF YOU READING THE ABOVE, PLEASE BEWARE OF THE STORES MENTIONED ABOVE. DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE ON WEBSITES. WE HAVE LOST OUT ON HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY. LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKES.
