Home Town - Bangalore
Te Furniture dept and Designer Team

High price for low cost

I realised the true meaning of the statement when I was foolish enough to all for the Diwali discount madness and indulged in some “budget” furniture shopping from Home Town, Marathahalli.

We bought a bedroom set for our new guest room. Quite happy with the purchase as the display unit looked quite good and matched both our decor and our budget. I think we should have picked up on the nightmare that would follow when we were informed that it would take 21 days for the delivery when the other stores (where we had scouted before) only needed about 7-10 days for the same.

The due date came and went. After numerous calls and couple of angry discussions with most of the staff of Home Town, it finally arrived. But soon we figured out that of the 4 piece bedroom set only the nightstand and the dresser has come. After another hour of banging our heads against the wall that i call the “management” of the furniture department at home town, we got the information that the rest of the stuff will take “another” 21 days. My husband would have used some language that day which in my 7 years of married life i have never heard before. Manager of the furniture dept finally relented and promised a delivery in the next 3-4 days.

After numerous follow ups, the “second-time” delivery truck landed. This time fortunately all the pieces were there but unfortunately, the wrong colour. Trying to avoid anymore headache we decided that changing the colour of our guest room was far easier than get our stuff from Home Town. Skipping over the fact that there were numerous cracks in the furniture and the audacity of the fixer to say that “it happens”, we soon discovered a stool missing. After being informed that it will take 4 days for that to come, I offered to pick it up the next day instead.

This was my third trip to Home Town to ensure that the 4 piece furniture set gets home safe and sound. As was expected, this trip also proved to be eventful. The “super-efficient” staff had put the bar code wrong and i was stuck with a piece that didn’t match anything in the house... not even the newly painted guest room. So instead of re-decorating the whole house, i decided a fight was essential. After a few choice words directed at the manager and a threat to take it to the highest authority, I was finally offered the “right” stool& but that would cost us Rs.1300 extra that had to paid upfront or no delivery.

I am still waiting for the missing piece.

The designer team took Rs 500 for a "survey" but neither did the surveyor come not did the money. After months of trying... I finally got my Rs.500 back... hurray!! small victories count!!

This is absolutely the very last time Home Town will ever see any business from me or my family.

Before, I decided to write about this experience... I visited the net and saw dozens of complaints against this store... but am surprised that nothing has been done about it. Please do something about it or can someone inform us what needs to be done to get this guys to clean up their act.
