I had sent my wife Rs.300, 000/= to her NRI account on 30th March ’09 from Dubai. [XTT No.1001 0089 0960 1664] And to make things worse sent another Rs.200, 000/= yesterday! [1001 0092 0935 1390] Today, as I write this complaint, the earlier amount is yet to be credited to her account. It’s out of sheer frustration that I write this, due to the lack of transparency and response from the banks side. My wife had been to the bank on 2nd and met a Mr. Vikram, who said that due to financial year ending and April Fools day on the 1st it’s getting delayed. He told her that most likely it would be credited on 3rd. On contacting the back today she was told that today being Rama Navami Mumbai is closed! Did he not know that 3rd was a holiday in Mumbai and initiated action on the 2nd when my wife had met him in the back? On contacting UAE Exchange through whom the money was deposited, they say it’s been pending with HSBC server since 31st! My family who is in Channai is traveling on 6th, and if they do not get the Rs.300.000/= the very purpose of sending it would be defeated. When I called Mr. Vikram today, in the afternoon, he asked me to contact him in the evening between 6 and 7.. And when I asked to speak to the branch manager, he says they don’t have one. [A ship with out a captain! ] And as expected when I called in the evening, no one answered the phone. A third degree behavior from a banker, whose words we have taken to be more valuable than a cheque. What are we to conclude? Won’t it be fair to assume that they care damn for their customer? How could as Indians expect FDIs to come into India, if these ‘so-called’ high end banks are to behave like this. They all seem to enjoy their time with excuse of holidays. Or is it a way to increase the coffer by denying their customers their money on time? But what they fail to understand is that there are other banks waiting in the wings. As far as we are concerned this would be our last transaction with HSBC, Chennai.
