Outstanding on closed credit card

Sir/Madam,

Since I am living outside India for the last 2 years, I had called up HSBC in August requesting them to cancel my credit card. I paid off all the outstanding amount and they told me that they have taken the request to cancel the credit can. This was done through phone banking, using the Phone PIN.

Now after 7 months my they call me up saying that I have to pay 5000 Rs, towards the outstanding amount ont he same closed credit card. When I told them that I had cancelled it, they say they do not have nay records that I have cancelled it.

What should I do in this case?
