Respected Ms. Mamata Banerjee,
I beg to state, that, I am a former member of Sikkim Legislative Assembly and have served as a member of Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) of N.F. Railway in the year 2001 & 2002.
I could not control myself after hearing this below narrated story from my daughter through her mobile in weeping voice which deeply hurt me and therefore writing you this letter in public interest and also seeking justice to my daughter and her friends from the North East.
My daughter Miss Karma Uden Bhutia and two of her friends Miss Kensi Kadu and Miss Julie Yirang, all three of them are 4th.year students of Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Imphal, Manipur and were traveling in North-East Express (2025), from Guwahati to NJP on 13th. September with valid reservation tickets in 3Tyre AC coach.
These three girl students, after proper checking, verifying and comparing their names in the approved list attached on the door site of the train boarded inside the coach and occupied their respective reserved seats at Guwahati Station.
Few minutes after departure from the Guwahati Station, one TTE came and checked their tickets and thereafter quietly went back. Soon after some time, again the same TTE came back with some companion and again asked for the ticket and their identification.
These students sincerely showed their ticket and ID cards. Most importantly their ID cards issued by their College significantly carry our National emblem “Satya Mey Jayantey” which TTE should have recognized, respected and honoured.
TTE without applying his mind straight away rejected their ID cards and asked for electoral card or pass port which they could not show on the spot. These three girl students were asked to get out of the train at next station or pay fine. They were abused, mistreated, harassed, terrorized, threatened and even snatched their tickets from the hand by the TTE and his companions.
No mercy was shown even after they wept, begged and apologized. They were mentally tortured and ultimately issued an Excess Fare Ticket bearing No. 232180 Dated 13/9/09 after imposing to pay rupees Two thousand Three hundreds and Seven only as a fine for nothing, since ID cards showed by them to TTE was a genuine, authoritative, legal, lawful and valid one. Surprisingly their original ticket was also not returned to them. Hence, it’s a straight case of cheating, terrorization and disloyalty to our Nation by a man in uniform.
My wife and I had to rush down to NJP Station to inquire about the fact of the above incident. Station Master of NJP was not available due to Corporation Election in North Bengal but other staff and TTE de-boarded from same train were quite helpful to explained me that TTE and his companion involved in the above drama were from railway Guwahati Flying Squad and even told me that the ID cards of students are very genuine one. They too were shocked to hear such a shameful act of their colleague.
Therefore, my humble request to your good self is to punish such heartless person who indulges in such unlawful activities and bring bad names to you and your department. Unless the culprits are punished these students would never be able to concentrate in their studies.
Let them return the money to students and tender their apology before the nation. Hope your personal intervention could certainly bring a quick result and solace to these students.
Let us not allow anymore innocent people to become the victim of such railway personnel. If desire, the culprits can be easily nabbed with the help of ticket Number issued to them i.e., Excess Fare Ticket No. 232180 of dated 13/9/09 issued by Guwahati Flying Squad.
Thanking You,
Yours faithfully
