I bought my Nokia N85 in Feb. 09. In the month of June, due to an accident the set stopped working. In the accident the cell phone slipped from my hand, when I was on bike. After that it was not turning on. I took some time from my busy schedule and took that handset to Nokia priority dealer at Lajpat Nagar.
They kept the head set with them and given me the expected time of three weeks. I requested them to inform me before replacing any part in the phone.
I got a call from them that its mother board is broken and few other parts need to be replaced, but from outside the phone was absolutely fine.
I told them to replace the required parts. As it was a case of physical damage, it was not in warranty, so I have to pay the complete amount.
When I went to collect the handset, after putting my phone battery it was not turning on and they don’t have a spare battery to check the headset properly, they put some other battery (from different handset) in my phone and somehow turned on the set. As the repair guy (Santosh) was holding the battery, I was not able to check any other function in my phone.
They suggested me that the battery is not charged for a long time; I should charge the battery completely and then check this phone.
When I came home my mobile was charged, but there was some kind of intermitted connection in it due to which it was getting turned off by its own, if I try to do any thing in it, that includes slide up and down position. It was working strangely; it was turning on its own wish.
I called Santosh, he told me to bring the head set immediately, but I don’t have my week off for two weeks, it was not possible for me to go there again.
As I don’t have any other option, I took leave on Sunday and went to his shop, but the mobile was not turning on at his shop. He did the same thing again, he put some other battery in the phone and turned it on, but still it was same situation, I was unable to check any thing in the phone. He told me that battery is dead and advised me to replace the battery, but the battery was working fine at my house, so it cannot be dead. I have decided to give it one more shot.
Again when it was getting charged at my home and it turned on. I called Santosh and told him the situation. He said “I have checked the phone in front of you and it’s a battery fault, so need to replace the battery”. He was not listening to me properly, but he keeps repeating the same sentence. His behavior was very rude and unprofessional. After a some time he told me that if I can bring the headset within 1-2 days he will again try to check it, but I told him that I don’t have time, but I can try and come next week. Again he was repeating the same thing, to bring the set within 1-2 days.
As I did not have time to go there, I have given my head set to one of my cousin brother, who has a shop of cell phone repairing. Finally he found that it was internal bus which connects the front slider to the motherboard.
Now I need clarification on few points
1) if the phone was fine from out side, how the mother board can be damaged?
2) As this work is not covered in warranty, all the parts that was replaced, should be given back to me, that Santosh straightway denied.
3) Why service center doesn’t have all accessories? (In my case if the battery was inside it and then I would have checked the phone the and there with my SIM and memory card).
4) Why the technician talk like they are the owner and we are working under them?
Nokia center has already taken Rs 4500 and apart from that I have given Rs 1500 for the bus. Still the headset is not working properly.
