Personal
Ridiculous Irresponsible Traffic Policing in Bangalore

Hi,

This is Mahesh. This incident happened to me today, March 24th '09. I had parked my bike in the road behind Adyar Anand Bhavan in Koramangala. Usually that is not a 'NO PARKING' area. Also, as there were few more bikes and cars parked there. So, i left my bike there and went. I did not see any 'No Parking' board in the near distance.

My mom and me went for shopping and returned after 1:30 hours only to see my vehicle disappeared from where i had parked. I asked the security in the nearby shop who told that it is a 'NO PARKING' zone and that the police tow van had taken it to ADUGODI POLICE STATION.

I then took my mom, who couldn't walk much, till the Adugodi Traffic Police station. It doesn't look like a police station, in first place. There was one guy, not in uniform, who showed me the place where they had kept my bike. He told me that the concerned policeman would be there in 5 mins. I then went to that place and waited there. There was another couple who were waiting to take their bike. 5, 10, 15... 75 mins passed. Till nobody even bothered to come there and tell what was happening. After 1:30 hours, the tow-van came there with another scooter in it.

There was a Sergeant sitting in the Front Seat who did not come out. The other person who was waiting went and spoke to the policeman in Kannada and told that he had parked where there was no 'No Parking' board. All his explanation went in vain and he paid the fine of Rs. 300 and went.

Next was my turn and me too paid the same amount, took the chargesheet and returned.

Hearing the other person's words that even the area where he had parked had no 'No Parking' board in his vicinity, I presume this would be the case in most of the places in Bangalore. Why is the traffic police so irresponsible in not having the 'No Parking' boards in appropriate places? I guess collecting fine is the only motive behind such an irresponsible act. Also, there was no proper communication as to how long we should wait for the policemen to arrive there and complete the 'FORMALITIES'.

Is there someone who can look at the increasing public anger on the traffic police in Bangalore and set right this kind of attitude from the Traffic police?
