I have been using prepaid Airtel life time mobile for the past two months. Yesterday somebody called and informed that the mobile number I am now using was in use by him and further informed that he lost his mobile some 6 months back. It was clarified to him that I got this number from Airtel show room and also informed him that since the number was not in use for the past six months it automatically lapsed. To my surprise on the same day my SIM has been inactivated. I have contacted customer care and they informed that the mobile number was issued with new SIM card since it was informed that the same was lost. There was no proper reply for my queries that how a person other than me have made request for change of SIM card and use my mobile number. There was no proper reply from the Airtel showroom also. Howevere i have requested the customer care to block the incoming and outgoing calls to avoid misuse of the number. Under these situation the Airtel simply say that You change the SIM card by payment and then use. There is no foolproof system to check verify the authenticity of the identity certificates by the airtel show room. Any body had the same problem with Airtel? What is the procedure to surrender the prepaid mobile number? I already made complaint to the Airtel show room regarding this and they are not aware where to send my complaint.
