On the evening of 27th Feb I purchased a UPS for my home computer from a shop named COMPUTER SHOPPE in Vadapalani, Chennai. Same day night I realised that I have been cheated! THe UPS unit was not functioning. I went throgh the trouble shooting manual and did everything written on it. I could see that the battery was APC make.
Next day I returned the UPS to the dealer. He promised me to look into the matter after consulting with the APC people. On 3rd March morning I got a call from the dealer informing me that there was a minor connection problem of cable with the battery and it has been corrected. Same day evening I went to the dealer to collect the UPS. Just to satisfy my curiousity, I slid back the battery holder cover. To my surprise and annoyance I saw a duplicate battery installed - some vague chinese company. On my protest, the dealer told me that they are also not aware as the battery was checked by APC field service personnel. I also taked to APC business dev mgr. His response was totally unprofessional and non-committal type, Today (4th Feb 09) I got a call from tyhe dealer informing me that APC people are telling that this is their company policy and they won't replace the faulty unit - and the cutomer is free to do whatever he wants if he is not satisfied.
JUST IMAGINE THE SITUATION. APC DOESN'T HAVE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR A BRAND NEW PRODUCT, NOT USED EVEN FOR A SECOND, AND PLACES THE CUSTOMER RESPONSIBLE FOR BUYING IT.
MY SUGGESTION TO PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS - GO FOR APC PRODUCTS IF YOU LOVE HARRASSMENT, SUBSTANDARD SERVICE, MENTAL TORTURE, AND CALLOUS REPONSE ROM THE COMPANY.
