Name correction in passport

Hi,

My wife had her passport issued four years back with her surname being misspelt. The passport was issued in Jaipur and we are now residing in Bangalore. I just wanted to know the procedure for name correction due to clerical error and also the duration by which i can expect this to be resolved after i've applied for the name crorrection?
