Non-refund of money on cancellation of Membership Orde

1. Around mid-day on Saturday, the 21st May I placed order for the Goldsgym Membership, under special offer for Senior Citizen, making payment of INR 15800/= through my RBS Debit Card. Almost immediately I realized that I had made a mistake. So, even without collecting the Receipt & the Membership Form etc., I straight drove down to my Bank, in Sector-18, Noida, to have the payment stopped. My Bankers told me that the same was not possible from their end. I was advised to contact Goldsgym and to request them to issue the Credit note.

2. Accordingly, I rang up Ms. Meghna Keer, Manager – Operations the same afternoon, & told her my decision. She asked me to meet her in her office, on Monday, 23rd. May.

3. I met Meghna on the 23rd. She was kind and sympathetic; she asked me if it was possible for me to commence the Membership from a later date etc. as the Goldsgym rules do not allow Cancellation/Refund, unless in exceptional circumstances. I told her that mine was indeed an ‘exceptional case’, as the Membership was cancelled even before commencement. Had I paid the money through cheque, I would not have to bother her or her Golden Gym. She told me to write a mail to her, and promised that she will forward the same to Head Office etc. Thereafter, I was handed over the Receipt (No. 10372), against the payment made on Saturday.

4. I wrote Meghna a mail on 23rd. May itself. Unfortunately I typed her mail ID wrong : “Goldgym”, instead of “Goldsgym”. The mail was returned ‘undelivered’. Another effort on 24th May, lead to the same situation. I then informed her of the same on Goldsgym’s Noida site. It was then that I recognized my mistake; so I forwarded my earlier mail to her on her correct ID.

5. When I rang her up on the 25th morning, she told me that since I had sent the message at the company’s website itself, she was not required to do anything more, and I will get a response.

6. Since that did not happen, (and has not happened till date!), I wrote to her again on 30th May and requested her to forward my case to the Head Office, with her recommendations, since she was my contact-point and that, I did not expect a reputed company to make their customers, and that too, a Senior Citizen & Retired Defense Officers, to run around ‘Head office’ etc. for issues like refund of a sum of INR 15, 600/=.

7. During the week commencing 20th June, I met Meghna again to find out the status of my case. She was cordial, as usual, and promised me that she will do the needful. Whatever she did, if at all, she hasn’t copy that to me, so far.

8. On 6th July, I received a SMS from Goldsgym, addressing me as “Member”. I replied back immediately, saying that since I my request for Cancellation is pending with the Company, my name should be struck-off their Members’ list. I reported this to Meghna, on 7th July, requesting her once again to forward my case to her ‘Higher-ups’, with copy to me so that I can follow it up myself. I have no doubt that any one, let alone Goldsgym, will ever even think that I will simply forget about my hard earned money.

9. However, I am yet to receive any response from Meghna/Goldsgym.
