Dear Sir,
I would like to draw your urgent attention to the unfair promotional practices carried out by Airtel & other mobile service providers. The point of debate this time is the Value Addition Services offered by the mobile service providers in the form of Caller Tunes also popularly known as Hello Tunes/Dialler Tunes or Welcome Tunes.
Its not long ago that the introduction of caller tune facility was regarded as a great value added service until it fell prey to the malicious promotional practices of the mobile service providers like Airtel. To be precise, I have an Airtel no. on which I have activated the caller tune facility for which I am charged Rs. 30/- every month by Airtel. Additionally, Rs. 15/- is deducted for any song selection as a Caller tune. Initially, I really enjoyed the service until I heard a much uninvited tone which said, “is gaane ko apni caller tune banana ke liye * aur 9 dabayen, gaane ka shulk 15 rupaye aur masik shulk sirf 30 rupaye”. This promotional AD spans 6-7 seconds which starts from the very moment the receiver’s mobile rings. Important to note is that almost 80-90% of the times, a person attends the call in the first 6-7 seconds which renders the Caller Tune facility redundant.
Now, the million dollar question is “why are these mobile companies carrying out their advertising & promotions out of customers’ pocket; why are we being charged for promotions executed by them; do I pay my hard earned money to satisfy their advertising needs? ”
As recompense, I would like to seek answers to my above question to which I strongly doubt would be any justifications with these mobile companies. Hence, I strongly protest this malpractice & demand immediate cessation of the same.
