Issuing my number to other ones

I have a number of Airtel Connection and its valid till 2014 but due to damage of my sim, my number has been too other person.

But how is it possible this number is registered on my name till 2014 but the telecommunication company given my number to other person...

Please help me out from this problem because i really need my number...
